Trumpism Caused the Attack on January 6th
Right now, the Republican Party is wedded to this divisive energy. The man himself is becoming irrelevant.

Soon we will have hearings about the domestic terror attack that took place on January 6, 2021.
On that same day, Congress was certifying the election after months of frivolous litigation by forces within the Republican Party in a futile attempt to delegitimize the election of President Joseph Biden. The experience following the 2020 election can be characterized by constant Republican attempts to conflate either minor instances of election irregularities or spread enough false insinuations so that the information highway gets backed up with misinformation.
It was an offensive display that relied on divisive and racialized tropes regarding city politics – often dominated by more diverse coalitions.
But this was the bargain for our Grand Old Party.
Trumpism demanded that Republicans engage in a tour of vengeance in order to answer the Trumpian myth that stated attention towards the Trump campaign’s Russia ties in 2016 was indeed a “witch hunt.”
Something that was further debunked this week.
This chain of performative politics, alienating lies, and wasted legal resources filled the months after the 2020 election with embarrassing moments like this one:
It was ridiculous but people did believe bits and pieces of a desperate effort by the GOP to save face and gaslight around Trump’s American carnage.
To this day, there are Republican efforts to amass a coordinated crowd of organized poll watchers and flood metropolitan precincts with GOP-friendly volunteers, and coerce local election workers. All because they believe the metro areas are too corrupt to run elections properly.
This chain of performative politics, alienating lies, and wasted legal resources led to this on January 6, 2021:
The chain of peaceful power transfers in America’s presidential elections was broken that day.
Next week we will see the Special House Committee Investigating the January 6th attack finally have public hearings. It will be a chance for the nation to see how connected politicians within the Republican Party and the Trumpist that took it over orchestrated this outburst of rage and chaos.
The primaries are revealing to us that even without Trump the man, the GOP is wedded to Trumpism the energy. No matter how divisive and illiberal that energy has shown itself to be.
American democracy was attacked and it was broadcasted live.
So, I hope the American people are paying attention.
